Reach Out and Read Orange County (California)

Orange County Reach Out and Read is lead by the California Chapter 4, American Academy of Pediatrics and currently has 42 active programs. The coalition officially began in 2006 and consists of community partners including CHOC Children's Hospital, UCI Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente of Southern California (Orange County), and the Children and Families Commission of Orange County's, Early Literacy Program (ELP).

A partnership with the California Chapter 4, AAP and ELP has allowed Orange County Reach Out and Read to grow in a few short years from 6 programs to 42 active programs. California Chapter 4, AAP coordinates program recruitment, implementation, training and technical assistance, while the Early Literacy Program supports Reach Out and Read efforts countywide through book supplies and a volunteer reader program.

Expansion of Orange County Reach Out and Read is ongoing, with an emphasis in the implementation of programs in high-need areas.
