Charity Navigator, America's premier charity evaluator, has awarded its highest rating of four stars to Reach Out and Read for five consecutive years, a distinction shared by only 4% of charities nationwide. Charity Navigator evaluates the fiscal management and responsibility of America's nonprofit organizations, and its 4-star rating is only awarded to a charity that "consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America."


Independent Charities of America
Seal of Excellence
The Independent Charities of America have awarded the Seal of Excellence to Reach Out and Read. The Seal of Excellence is awarded to nonprofit organizations that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.

Social Capitalist Award
2008
The Fast Company/Monitor Group Social Capitalist Award was presented to Reach Out and Read as one of 45 social entrepreneurs who are "changing the world." The Social Capitalist Awards defines strong performance as a combination of both social impact and organizational effectiveness. This performance is represented by five critical components: Social Impact, Aspiration & Growth, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Sustainability.


GuideStar Exchange
Valued Partner
The GuideStar Exchange, an initiative designed to connect nonprofits with current and potential supporters, named Reach Out and Read a Valued Partner in 2009. Valued Partners are nonprofits that have updated their nonprofit report to the fullest-sharing information, documentation, photos, and video with GuideStar's site visitors-as well as conducting an independent audit of all financial statements.


Endorsed by the
American Academy of Pediatrics
In 1998, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) officially endorsed the Reach Out and Read model of early literacy promotion. Today, the Reach Out and Read model is also part of the AAP's official Bright Futures Guidelines for pediatric healthcare providers.

In 2008, the American Academy of Pediatrics' Section on Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics also presented the 2008 Dale Richmond/Justin Coleman Award to Reach Out and Read for outstanding contributions in child development.

In 2008, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) officially endorsed the Reach Out and Read model of early literacy promotion.

Confucius Prize for Literacy
2007
In 2007, the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded Reach Out and Read the international Confucius Prize for Literacy for its work in the global fight against illiteracy.

Gold HALO Award
2006
The Cause Marketing Forum presented the Gold HALO Award for Best Social Service/Education Campaign to Scholastic Book Clubs and Reach Out and Read for their cause marketing partnership through the ClassroomsCare program.
