Read Romp + Rock at the Roxy Join us for our third annual Read Romp + Rock event on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Roxy nightclub in Boston. Proceeds from the event support our mission to make a love of books and reading part of every healthy childhood. Last year we welcomed nearly 350 friends, supporters, and fans to the Opera House where guests danced onstage and helped us to raise close to $400,000 for ROR. In keeping with the spirit of this annual "non-gala gala," we have once again chosen a non-traditional venue, the Roxy. This nightclub setting will allow us to have a fun dance party with great music and food, while benefiting Reach Out and Read. In addition to dancing, guests at Read Romp + Rock will be entertained by a roaming illusionist and have an opportunity to play various games and book-related activities, including participating in the "Celebrity Reader Raffle." Celebrity Reader Raffle ROR's third annual Read Romp + Rock once again features our signature "Celebrity Reader Raffle." This raffle is like no other and directly ties to ROR's mission of reading aloud to children. Ticket holders can win reading experiences with Boston sports stars, famous authors, and other notable celebrities. Last year, event co-chair Jenny Seeman won an event with award winning author Lois Lowry, who recently read to Jenny's daughter's classroom at The Meadowbrook School in Weston. "After hearing Lois read at Meadowbrook, my celebrity 'pick' for the raffle would be one of the authors," said Seeman. "As a member of the Meadowbrook Library committee, I realized how valuable these prizes are for our children's schools, and having an author come and read aloud to children is the heart and soul of ROR."
