Exciting New Ways to Support ROR

ROR-Arkansas Tweets its Way into Books, Dollars
Reach Out and Read Arkansas was all atwitter last month when social networking group LRTweetup, an informal network of approximately 300 central-Arkansas professionals who subscribe to Twitter, hosted a fundraiser to collect books and raise awareness for the program. Held on September 10 at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, the event raised $600 and more than 500 books for ROR-Arkansas.

The event was part of a Twestival Local 2009, a series of global events organized by volunteers around the world under short timescales to bring online, tech-savvy people offline to support a great local cause. ROR Arkansas was suggested as the Little Rock charity of choice by an LRTweetup member whose pediatrician participates in ROR. Members quickly spread the word about the Little Rock event by posting on Facebook, sending tweets, and posting on blogs. Most importantly, the Twestival helped ROR-Arkansas develop a committed group of young professionals who understand the importance of reading and ROR's mission.

Book Buddies Have a Long-Term Impact
Every month, ROR's medical providers meet with almost 320,000 children and their parents. Each encounter helps parents change their behavior - encouraging them to read with their children every day. ROR's Book Buddies make recurring monthly gifts that help to support our mission. Why not join them? Here's the impact your gift can have...
  • $100 a month helps to support ROR and provide 300 books in one year.
  • $60 a month enables ROR to provide its full, five-year program to 18 more children.
  • $40 a month enables ROR to provide its full, five-year program to 12 more children.
  • $20 a month provides support and 60 new books in one year.

Join Book Buddies today and become a partner in our mission to ensure that all children grow up with books and a love of reading.

Peyton & Eli Manning, ClassroomsCare Team Up to Support ROR
Once again this year, Reach Out and Read will be one of the primary beneficiaries of Scholastic Book Clubs' ClassroomsCare initiative. What's different this year is that Super Bowl MVPs Eli and Peyton Manning are joining in the effort to get the word out to kids in schools across America.

ClassroomsCare is an annual challenge to the one million classrooms that use Scholastic Book Clubs. Participating classes read 100 books, triggering a donation of books from Scholastic Book Clubs to Reach Out and Read and other charity and literacy organizations. The books are then donated throughout the year to kids who in many cases would not otherwise have books of their own. Last year, ROR received 316,000 brand-new children's books through the generosity of the ClassroomsCare program!
