In recognition of the role that individual donors, foundations, and corporations have played in our success, Reach Out and Read launched the Literacy Champions Society in September at a reception at Boston’s beautiful Pucker Gallery. Hosts Bernie and Sue Pucker welcomed National Board Chair Judy Newman, National Medical Director Dr. Perri Klass, and Chief Executive Officer Earl Martin Phalen to recognize and celebrate ROR’s most committed supporters from Boston and beyond. In her remarks, Judy thanked supporters for their significant and longstanding commitment to ROR and provided an update on activities during ROR's ROR's 20th anniversary year. In particular, Judy cited the support of ROR's Literacy Champions as crucial to our ability to sustain and expand our program while posting an operating surplus for the year. ROR's new CEO, Earl Martin Phalen, focused his remarks on the effectiveness of the ROR model in preparing children for success in school and in life, and stressed the critical importance of an educated workforce to compete successfully in the global economy.
