New Partners The Spirit of Service at Harper Collins To celebrate a new book, Spirit of Service: Your Daily Stimulus for Making a Difference, the employees of publisher Harper Collins made donations to Reach Out and Read. Inspired by President Obama's plea to Americans to take part in the "remaking of America," employees made online donations to support ROR, which is named as one of 365 noteworthy and inspiring charities. For more about Spirit of Service, click here. VCC-ROR Wine Club Celebrate the season with a wine club membership for yourself or a friend! In celebration of ROR's 20th anniversary this year, Vintners Charitable Cooperative (VCC) is offering our friends and supporters the special opportunity to become wine club members with world-renowned wines and support ROR's mission at the same time! ROR has partnered with VCC, a DC-based company that brings together winemakers to raise money for charity, to develop the exciting new program. Best of all, 50% of the net profits will support ROR's Programs nationwide. Through the wine club's website, friends of ROR can sign up for a special wine club where members will receive shipments of wine from exclusive winemakers around the world twice per year. The wines featured in the wine club cannot be found in your local grocery or liquor store. Each shipment will include two to six bottles with a maximum of $175 per shipment, excluding taxes and shipping. Members will also receive exclusive benefits from the winery, including discounts on future wine purchases and/or invitations to events across the country. The first shipment of wines will come from Chappellet Winery, a Napa Valley vineyard that recently received a 91 rating by Wine Spectator for its 2007 Chardonnay. The shipment will include four bottles of Chappellet wine for $122.00 plus tax and shipping (including two bottles of the 2007 Chardonnay and two bottles of 2007 Mountain Cuvee). The deadline to take advantage of this offer and receive this shipment is November 21, 2009. The shipping date is December 2-3, 2009. If you miss the date, do not worry, you can still become wine club members to support Reach Out and Read. VCC will rotate our winemaker partners with each shipment so there is an ever-changing variety of a great wine available to club members. The second shipment anticipated will be from Dovetail Vineyards in Spring 2010. Reading is Wiggle-Recommended The Wiggles, world-famous children's entertainers, are supporting Reach Out and Read on their "Go Bananas Live!" Summer and Fall Tours. The Wiggles are encouraging every family who attends their concerts in 75 U.S. cities to join them in supporting ROR by bringing a new children's book that will be donated to a child in need in the region! In addition, The Wiggles created a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for television and radio to promote the book drive for ROR, which was distributed nationwide! And The Wiggles themselves, most of whom have background in early childhood education, have been promoting ROR in their interviews with local newspapers and TV stations.   Return
