New Board Members Join ROR At Reach Out and Read's April Board of Directors meeting, the following individuals were approved as members of the Board: Neal Baer, M.D., Jay Berkelhamer, M.D., Carol Emig, Bob Franks, Martha Gershun, Susan Cooley King, Perri Klass, M.D., Douglas Korn, Linda Fayne Levinson, Ann Mercer Logan, Lois Lowry, Jenny Seeman, and Catherine Snow, Ph.D. "We're grateful to each of our new Board members," acting Board Chair Judy Newman said. "In the coming year, we have an important agenda to create a governing Board that strengthens the organization on the national and local levels. Each new member brings a high level of expertise and commitment to Reach Out and Read. I'm grateful." The new members were nominated by an ad hoc subcommittee of the current Board and were asked to serve by ROR's founder, Barry Zuckerman, M.D. "The process has been inspiring," Dr. Zuckerman said. "Each person warmly accepted our request that they join us at this critical time. Their commitment to our mission is extraordinary, and our current Board members look forward to welcoming the new members in September." Recruitment of new Board members is the largest change in Board composition since ROR was founded in 1989. At the inaugural meeting in September, the Board will have 24 members, serving staggered terms. Board members are asked to serve on one committee, to use their judgment to govern the organization, and to provide generous support to the organization.
