Reading Across the Nation: A Chartbook

On November 1, Reach Out and Read launched the nation's first report to track state by state daily rates of parents reading to young children. Reading Across the Nation: A Chartbook was prepared for ROR by the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families & Communities.

The report reveals that across the U.S. there is considerable variation in rates of reported reading to young children. Highest rates were reported for Vermont, where 68% of children between the ages of birth and five...                                   MORE

ROR Federal Funding: Appropriations and Authorization

Growth of Family Medicine

Reach Out and Read was co-founded by pediatricians Barry Zuckerman, MD, and Robert Needlman, MD, and while a majority of our medical providers today are pediatricians, a growing number of family physicians are implementing the ROR model of early literacy intervention in their well-child visits. Currently, more than 6,000 family physicians and residents are participating in ROR, approximately 15% of all ROR medical providers throughout the country. To reach more children and families who will benefit from the books and the anticipatory guidance that we provide, ROR needs to reach out to...                         MORE

Book Updates

New Titles Available in the 2007-2008 ROR Scholastic Catalog

The book options for ROR programs keep expanding, making more quality books available at even greater savings. The 2007-2008 Catalog has a cleaner design and a greater selection of books in more languages. We are pleased to offer books in French and Khmer as well as new board books in the twelve languages previously available. The catalog cover art was taken from a wonderful new book with special significance to ROR. Maybe a Bear Ate It! is an endearing tale of what happens when a beloved book is temporarily lost. It is a collaboration of two long-time friends of ROR, author Robie Harris and illustrator Michael Emberley. Together with...                     MORE
