National Center Updates

Staffing Changes at the National Center

We are excited to announce that we have hired Matt Ferraguto to be Reach Out and Read's new Director of Communications. He will begin work at the ROR National Center on December 10, which will give him two weeks to work with Nancy Berman on a smooth transition. Matt will report directly to Martha Gershun, and will serve on the ROR Management Committee. Matt has spent the past five years as Press Secretary for Congressman Stephen Lynch, and before that he was Deputy Press Secretary for Senator Edward Kennedy. He holds a BA in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, with a minor in Slavic Languages and Literature. Matt's wife is a pediatrician who trained at BMC, so he is very familiar with ROR and a true believer in our mission.

We are pleased to welcome Trisha Ross, National Programs Assistant, to the Programs Department. In her new role, Trisha coordinates the enrollment and training processes for new sites, responds to inquiries from prospective and existing sites, and provides communications and site information support to ROR's coalitions. Prior to joining ROR in September, Trisha was a special needs teacher. She has also worked in New Zealand and the United Kingdom and aspires to a career in nonprofit management. In her life outside ROR, Trisha enjoys singing in a community chorus and - of course - reading. Most recently, she has been busy re-reading all of the Harry Potter books. You can contact Trisha at 617-455-0631 or trisha.ross@reachoutandread.org.

After eight years in the ROR Programs Department, Helen Harrow has been promoted to the position of Human Resources Coordinator for the National Center and Executive Assistant to Martha Gershun and Perri Klass, M.D. In this capacity, Helen manages Martha's and Perri's busy schedules and coordinates ROR Board communications; she also serves as ROR's liaison to Boston Medical Center's Human Resources Department. You can reach Helen at 617-455-0651 or via email at helen.harrow@reachoutandread.org.

ROR Online Discussion Forum

Since the September launch of a new online Discussion Forum for the 32 ROR Field Leaders has been so well received, ROR is now extending Discussion Forum access to all ROR medical providers. Shortly thereafter, it will be opened to all ROR site coordinators as well. Initially established to facilitate communication among the widely-dispersed field staff, the Forum allows users to read and respond to postings from others on topics of shared interest. We are gratified by the success of the Discussion Forum so far, and encourage you to sign up for Discussion Forum access. Please email Alison Driscoll at alison.driscoll@reachoutandread.org for more information.
