ROR CELEBRATES 20 YEARS
In March 1989, Boston City Hospital pediatricians Barry Zuckerman and Robert Needlman began handing out books to their youngest patients, offering advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud, and deploying volunteer readers in the pediatric clinic waiting room. NAPNAP PROMOTES LITERACY
In April 2008 at their national convention in Nashville, TN, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) formed a Special Interest Group (SIG) to promote Early Childhood Literacy. The SIG's formation is a natural outgrowth of the involvement of Nurse Practitioners in Reach Out and Read at both the leadership and membership levels.

Since 2000, Reach Out and Read (ROR) has received federal funding administered through the U.S. Department of Education, as well as funding from more than a dozen state governments. CLASSROOMSCARE UPDATE
As you may know, Scholastic Book Clubs have dramatically increased the number of ClassroomsCare books that they will be donating to Reach Out and Read this year to 350,000!
In May, ROR Sites nationwide will begin receiving these donated books directly from Scholastic, and we want to make sure that we recognize Scholastic Book Clubs for its generosity!
