NAPNAP Makes a Formal Commitment to Early Childhood Literacy

In April 2008 at their national convention in Nashville, TN, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) formed a Special Interest Group (SIG) to promote Early Childhood Literacy. The SIG’s formation is a natural outgrowth of the involvement of Nurse Practitioners in Reach Out and Read at both the leadership and membership levels.

The purpose of forming the SIG was to increase the commitment of Nurse Practitioners to early childhood literacy and school readiness. As with Reach Out and Read, the SIG will promote
multiple areas of children’s development, positive parental attitudes, and knowledge about reading aloud, fine motor book handling skills, and increased language development.

To further the NAPNAP SIG’s goal, we are asking all providers who receive the ROR Programs Newsletter to share the Newsletter generously with other clinicians and staff. If your colleagues are interested in receiving the ROR Programs Newsletter directly, the ROR Coordinator for your Program can add their names and email addresses in the Program Administration/Contacts section of myROR.org.
