New Materials for the Leyendo Juntos Initiative
Over the past few months Reach Out and Read has finalized new materials for the Leyendo Juntos (Reading Together) initiative designed to support the over one million Spanish-speaking families Reach Out and Read Programs serve nationwide!
We are excited to announce the translation of over 50% of the Reach Out and Read public website into Spanish! We are hopeful this effort will draw more Spanish-speaking parents and |
providers to the website to find information and materials about the importance of reading to children to ensure school success. The key to this effort has been the outstanding work of both our dedicated IT and Communications Departments, as well as Linguistic Systems on the actual translation. We encourage you to share the link to the Spanish-language version of the website with the Spanish-speaking families you serve.
Due to the overwhelming success and reception of the "Spanish Language Literacy Promotion for Pediatric Primary Care Providers," Reach Out and Read continues to offer the guide to all Programs nationwide on an ongoing basis. The Providers' Guide was designed as a reference tool for pediatric health care providers already trained in the Reach Out and Read model as a way to build a level of trust between families who do not speak English and their provider. The Providers' Guide contains topic ideas and common phrases to enhance interactions with Spanish-speaking patients and parents around books and reading aloud. We also developed a recent companion to the successful Provider's Guide, the "Leyendo Juntos Pocket Guide", a condensed version of the Provider's Guide containing key messages in Spanish (and their English translation) about reading with children. If you would like to receive any of these materials for the providers at your Reach Out and Read Program, please contact Brian Gallagher
