     Federal Funding Update

The Prescribe a Book Act:

We need your help! We are still working to secure co-sponsors for H.R. 4449, the Prescribe a Book Act (PABA) in the House. PABA would authorize Reach Out and Read as a funded program in FY09 - FY13. Please contact your U.S. Representatives and ask them to co-sponsor this bill. Click here for a list of current co-sponsors. To take action, visit our Legislative Action Center.

FY09 Funding: Dear Appropriators Letters:

Thank you so much for all of your advocacy efforts during our House and Senate FY09 Appropriations Campaigns! Our House letter was delivered with 121 signatures, and our Senate letter with 43 - a tremendous show of support from Capitol Hill! To view a list of supporters, click here.

FY08 Federal Funding:

Our federal appropriation for FY08 was $4M. We are still awaiting news from the Department of Education as to whether or not the Secretary of Education will have discretionary funds to supplement our appropriation, so stay tuned for more information to come.

Thank you again for all of your hard work on our federal funding campaigns! If you have any questions, feel free to contact Abbie Bloom at abbie.bloom@reachoutandread.org.

Hill Day 2008

In February, more than 60 Reach Out and Read Field Leaders, Medical Directors and Staff gathered in Washington D.C. for ROR's 5th annual Capitol Hill Day. We conducted 248 meetings with Members of Congress and their staff to educate them about ROR and to ask for their help on our federal funding efforts.
