Perhaps the most popular literacy materials that Reach Out and Read produces are its "Developmental Milestones of Early Literacy." Developmental Milestones of Early Literacy, written by pediatricians, provides guidance for parents and doctors on appropriate book-related behaviors for ages 6 months through 5 years.
When loving parents share books with them, children will develop an early positive attachment to books. The Developmental Milestones Chart outlines the motor and cognitive skill development - related to reading - at various age ranges. Also included are tips for parents to aid in the development of the child's attachment to books and reading skills.
The Developmental Milestones are currently available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
Often, parents and teachers groups or education and literacy organizations request permission to reprint the Reach Out and Read Developmental Milestones of Early Literacy. If you would like to request permission to reprint these or any other Reach Out and Read literacy materials, please contact the Communications Director at communications@reachoutandread.org.
